EQ - How can Word allow me to cite sources accurately?

  1. Activator - TPS Splashdown - Write the steps to cite this source properly
  2. Discussion - What is your biggest challenge when citing resources?
  3. Creating Citations in Word
    1. Modify the documentation style
    2. Insert a citation placeholder
    3. Enter the source information
  4. Word Challenge
    1. Part 1 - Creating a Citation
      1. Open Word
      2. Click the References Tab
      3. Modify the documentation style to MLA
      4. Find & click the Insert Citations command
      5. Click Add New Source from the Insert Citations Menu
      6. Use the Dialog Box to enter information to build the citation
      7. Click OK
      8. Notice that you have just created an in-text citation
    2. Part 2 - Editing Citations
      1. Click somewhere in the citation
      2. Click the Options Box (the dropdown)
      3. Click Edit Citation
      4. Type 34-42 in the Pages section of the dialog box
      5. Click OK
      6. Notice that you have edited the citation to include the page numbers
    3. Part 3 - Create a Bibliographical List
      1. Place the Insertion Point at the beginning of a new page
      2. Find the References Tab
      3. Click the Bibliography Command
      4. Click Insert Bibliography
    4. Part 4 - Modifying a Style Using the Styles Task Pane
      1. Click somewhere in the list of sources
      2. Click the Home Tab
      3. Click the Styles Dialog Box Launcher
      4. Click Bibliography to select it
      5. Click Modify on the Bibliography menu
      6. Choose Paragraph, No Spacing, No Spacing
      7. Find the Double Space Command and click it
      8. See the Preview to make sure it follows MLA format
      9. Check Automatically update
      10. Click OK, then Close
  5. Discussion Question - Does this look right?  Why or why not?

  7. AP - Update Your Op Ed to follow MLA guidelines, including a Works Cited page

Current Events

You’re Hired 

Directions: The New York Times needs a student’s perspective on a real life current event. They’ve hired YOU to write an Op Ed piece for next week’s Sunday Edition. To be successful, complete the following.
  1. Choose a Current Event that interests you. 
  2. Find at least 3 online articles, from reputable sources, to learn about this current event.
    1. Print each article (go to the printer AFTER printing all 3) 
      1. Highlight key ideas, interesting facts, and write down your thoughts on the printouts 
    2. Develop an opinion on this current event 
    3. Write an opinion piece covering this topic (remember your Language Arts lessons) 
      1. Use MS Word 
      2. Support your opinion using information collected from your sources 
      3. Save As: Current Event Article
